Keep Your Conversation To Yourself

To many of us in the developed western world it would appear that everyone and their dog now has a mobile phone. We should all be aware that around half of the worlds population will have never made or received a telephone call.

This really highlights the technological gulf that exists between the developed countries and the developing countries.

But there are plenty of people who believe that mobile phones are actually more of a scourge and not very useful. Have you used a bus or a train lately?

I routinely travel by train to and from London and I’m forced to listen to various telephone conversations that, before the mobile phone revolution, would have never taken place. On my way home on the train from London each evening I’m forced to listen to people calling their partners simply to tell them that they are on the train. And every evening I have to listen to the same people making the same calls with the same useless message. How did they manage before mobile phones?

I’m also forced to listen to the inane conversations of teenagers that make no sense whatsoever. Their conversations seem to be focused on their boring lives, the television programmes they’ve been watching or criticising their boyfriends. In one conversation that was heard recently a young lady described a recent sexual experience with a young man in far too much detail. As she proceeded to describe her experience in far too much detail everyone in the compartment was squirming with embarassment.

Inconsiderately forcing people to listen to one side of your mobile phone conversation is one way in which modern mobile phone use is anti-social. Another is those incredibly irritating and often far too loud ringtones that are supposed to sound like a popular tune but don’t.

We all need to be reminded of how lucky we are to even own mobile phones. People who use their mobile phones to describe their sex lives should be banned from owning them.

Hands-free Car Kit Use, Increases Driver Safety?

cell phone use while driving is common but controversial. Being distracted while operating a motor vehicle has been shown to increase the risk of an accident. Because of this, many state governments have made the use of a cell phone while driving illegal. Washington, California, Oregon and Arizona are just a few states of the many that penalized drivers caught using their mobile phones while behind the wheel. The same limitations apply to drivers internationally.

While the popularity of mobile phones has grown enormously in the past 20 years, the demand for hands-free kits increased as well. In several states it’s mandatory to use a hand-free device while operating a vehicle. Hefty fines are issued to drivers who don’t abide by their state governing rules regarding cell phone use while driving. While some say it’s tough to determine how many accidents were results from cell phones, what is certain is that talking on the phone and texting while driving both lead to distraction. Case studies show that driver inattentiveness is the leading cause of car accidents.
A new study confirms that reaction time of cell phone users are astoundingly delayed, hightening the risk of accidents. Researchers indicate that “If you put a 20-year-old driver behind the wheel with a cell phone, their reaction times are the same as a 70-year-old driver who is not using a cell phone,” said University of Utah psychology professor David Strayer. “It’s like instantly aging a large number of drivers.”

Retailers of hands-free cell phone kits typically point out that driving with a cell phone in one hand and the steering wheel in the other is dangerous. The implication is that using the hands-free kind isn’t. New research agrees with their selling point. A review of studies into the ergonomic and psychological issues of using a cell phone behind the wheel, concludes that when it comes to driving safety, there is certainly a difference between hands-free bluetooth users versus hands-on cell phone use by drivers.

In 2008, over 800,000 people were texting, making calls, or using a handheld cell phone while behind the wheel of a motor vehicle in the United States. Statistics that same year reported that distracted driving killed roughly 6,000 Americans, and injured 330,000. As always there is proof in the numbers, so clearly cell phone use while driving is quite risky.

The consistency of increased crash risk between hands-free use and hand held cell phone use is at odds with legislation in many locations that prohibits cell phone use while driving. Talking, dialing or texting on a cell phone is more distracting than using a hands-free devices that offer voice-dialing and handsfree operation. It is apparent that hands-free use will reduce or eliminate that increased risk of an accident.

Cell Phone Controversies – Tame a Cell Phone

We are all aware of the benefits of the cellular phones. They make lives more convenient; lines of communication become more open due to them but there are controversies that could not be overcome. These are controversies from different angles. We have to be aware of these controversies; they could be factors to consider in the use of your cellular phone.

• Use of cellular phone while driving

According to studies in the US, there are more incidences of road accidents caused by the use of cellular phones while driving. They equate the instance to driving while drunk. In some parts of the world, it is totally prohibited to use. There are even further studies that show that “hands-free” phones is not that much safer as well. In other European countries, hand-held phones are highly discouraged.

• Use of cellular phones threats security

In most cases, cellular phones are media for identity theft. As mentioned in Wikipedia, it is due to "scanning" whereby third parties in the local area could intercept and eavesdrop in on calls. Another point is that Analogue phones could also be listened to on some radio scanners. This must be a warning to all cellular phone users; we have to be very careful in our use of our cellular phones. We could enjoy all the services these innovations offer but we have to see to it that we protect ourselves from untoward outcomes as well.

• Use of cellular phones in aircrafts

It is a general knowledge that the use of cellular phones while one is in an aircraft is impossible. This all rooted from an incident way back in 2000 when it was aired that an aircraft crashed due to a passenger’s cellular phone use. Studies tell that Cellular phones and other mobile devices could be used to detonate remote Improvised Explosive Devices. Though there is not much proof about it yet, it has been an internationally-known policy not to use cell phones in flight.

These are really important points to take note of. Though some of them do not have concrete proofs, it must still be taken with importance and caution. There is no harm in doing so.

Cellular phones are helpful but in one way, be careful.

Cell Phone Industry History and Growth

The amazing technology of cell phones has been experiencing surprising growth and development these days.

Cell phones were introduced in 1947 as gadgets that can be used from cars. Since then their purpose was achieved and greatly exceeded.

Name of the gadget was originated from the word ‘cellular’ normally used with the word ‘phone’. Word ‘cellular’ means that phone’s entire technology is based on signal cells, each of them contains transmitter as a centre that assures the mobility and the great range, almost worldwide, of mobile phones. These transmitters form a network without uncovered spaces. Notwithstanding the fact that there is a number of uncovered areas, most civilized and populated locations can boast availability of mobile phone operators and network coverage.

Nowadays, mobile phone network try to cover as many technological areas as possible. Up-to-date phone features include watching TV, playing games, taking pictures and making movies,  colour dosplay and MP3 players. Some of them just like PC’s have Windows installed, others can even compete with game consoles like Nintendo due to a number of options they offer.

Competitive environment has encouraged mobile phone developers to produce more sophisticated gadgets. Japan is known to have always been a pioneer in the cell phone industry which boasted TV broadcasting and digital cameras built in the phones long before they appeared in America and Europe. Japanese manufactures along with leading worldwide producers try to do their best to come up with new options for a cell phone, following a fixed goal: to create the perfect phone that can stand for all multimedia and communication devices and a phone that combines everything from communication to utility.

It can be assumed that cell phone can surprise us even more by introducing, for instance, holographic images. But no matter what the next step is going to be, mobile phone industry is being constatntly improved and modified, even as we speak and cell phones have a bright future ahead of them.

Cell Phone Use in Public Places – Why Banning Cell Phones in Public

You cannot argue with that fact that mobile phones are great invention. They became very important part of our lives in these modern times but on the other side, they have caused a lot of negative consequences for the public especially. The misuse of this device could really cause negative emotions for many people.

Did you have such unpleasant experience in public: you are in a public bus; an extremely loud ringing tone destroys the moment? And an extremely loud voice started to be like a blabbermouth … you could hear even the most private conversations… without any pinch of discreet manner from the user. Why are they doing such things?

According to one respectable newspaper “Some people due to some natural peculiarities of their nature speak louder when they are on the phone, and sometimes if there is a bad signal they will often repeat what they have said several times. It is possible that one of the main reasons we take offence at people using a mobile in close proximity to us is because we only ever hear half the conversation.  It doesn’t make sense and because we are naturally curious and like a puzzle with half the pieces missing we frustrated by being unable to see the complete picture.”

Really, no matter how we try, we can`t ignore listening to mobile phone conversations of others in a bus, a train, in the mall or any public place for that matter. Yes, listening and not hearing. Thus, it is on purpose. This scene is annoying you, right? Here is one more situation – you are down with all your appetite- eating lunch at your desk since you have a very short lunch break and in the middle of it, you just stop right off the bat because of a phone ringing somewhere. Is it not so disruptive? We should turn our mobile phones in a silent mode when we are at work; we are in a public place… Ringing tones are great and cool and they are some form of self expression. However, they are not something to show-off. There is always a time for everything.

You should be attentive to other people and you must understand what words “real freedom” mean. Use your cellular as an extension of your self- use it with the right amount of privacy. You just do not realize how annoying such situations can be and how many people get annoyed because you do not make an effort to use your cell properly.
